WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's soccer team fell to the MIT Engineers by a score of 2-0 Wednesday night in non-conference action at Coughlin Field.
With the win, the Engineers improved their record to 7-6-2 and the Lancers fell to 6-8-2 after the loss.
The Engineers got on the board first with a goal off the head of Garrett Gordon (The Woodlands, Texas) in the 11th minute. Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, Calif.) sent a free kick into the box that Gordon got to first and sent past the Lancer goalkeeper.
MIT kept their 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of the first half. The Engineers enjoyed a solid lead in terms of time of possession and shots, as they outshot the Lancers seven to one.
The Engineers would add another goal to their lead in the 59th minute. Sebastian Simon (Detroit, Mich.) received a pass from Peter Nova (Omaha, Neb.), turned, and managed to place a shot just past the Lancer keeper.
MIT keeper Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, Mass.) earned the win with his four saves. Worcester State goalie Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) finished with the loss, despite his four saves. Abdulrazak Frederick (Shrewsbury, Mass). Also saw time in net and finished with three saves.
The Lancers play their next game at home against Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday, October 26 starting at 6 p.m. The Engineers will host Emerson College on Saturday, October 27 with kickoff at 1 p.m.
