Mazeika, Truong Honored As MASCAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Tim Mazeika and sophomore Duy Truong have been tabbed MASCAC Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for helping pace Worcester State to a fourth-place finish at the Tufts Invitational this past weekend.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and sophomore Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) have been tabbed MASCAC Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for helping pace Worcester State to a fourth-place finish at the Tufts Invitational this past weekend.
Mazeika sprinted to fifth in the 800 meters (1:59.94) and qualified for the Division III New England Championships before he ran the anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x800 meter relay squad's time of 8:27.98.
As of this afternoon, Mazeika's time in the 800 is 12th in the latest Division III New England seeding sheet. The senior is the schools record-holder in the 1,000 meters (2:35.36) and he helped reset the 4x800 meter relay mark at the Open New England Championships during the last indoor season.
Truong had four top six performances at Tufts – which included taking top accolades in the long jump (21-6/6.55 meters) and sixth in the triple jump (39-5.25/12.02m).
In addition to hitting the Division III New England standard in the long jump, he added third in the 60 meters (7.20 – a DIII New England time) and fourth in the 60 meter hurdles.
Truong's long jump at Tufts is currently fifth on the latest Division III New England list and 22nd among ECAC Division III performers.
Next week the Lancers continue their indoor season at the Wheaton Invitational.
