Worcester State Takes No. 4 Seed in MASCAC Women’s Basketball Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's tournament as they completed their regular season on Saturday (Feb. 17) with a 12-13 overall record, and a 6-6 league record.

During the regular season, Worcester State was led by Britt Herring (West Brookfield, Mass.) who averaged 12.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game and led the league in field goal percentage at 57 and blocks with 73. Worcester State's Kaitlyn Berkel (Waterford, Conn.) also finished the regular season averaging double-digit figures in points per game (10.5) and was the second-best on the team in rebounds per game with eight.

The tournament begins on Tuesday (Feb. 20) with the quarterfinal round. No. 3 seed Bridgewater State will entertain the No. 6 seed Fitchburg State, while No. 4 seed Worcester State hosts the No. 5 seed Salem State at 7 p.m.

The No. 2 seed Framingham State will face off with the winner of the Bridgewater State/Fitchburg State on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m., while top seed Westfield State will entertain the winner of the Worcester State/Salem State game at 7 p.m.

Second seed Framingham State will face off with the winner of Bridgewater State/Fitchburg State on Thursday, February 22 at 6 pm while top seed Westfield State entertains the winner of Worcester State/Salem State at 7 pm.

The winners of both semifinals will then meet on Saturday (Feb. 24) at the highest remaining seed for the MASCAC Tournament Championship and the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

During last year's championship, top seed Westfield State bested second seed Framingham State 83-74 to claim their second straight title as a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
