Worcester, MA --- Vicki O’Brien was an impact player for the women’s volleyball team as a freshman at Worcester State, finishing second on the team with 246 digs. This season, the Canton High grad did something not so uncommon for college sophomores: She got better.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Led by first-team selections junior Becky Lebel and sophomore Vicki O’Brien, Worcester State had four student-athletes who have received a nod to the All-MASCAC women’s volleyball team. Senior Joanne Grenier and freshman Alyssa Jasper were on the second-team while head coach Bernie Chase was honored as the Turfer Co-MASCAC Coach of the Year.
Westfield, MA --- After a thrilling 3-2 victory over #2 Framingham State in the semifinal round of the MASCAC women’s volleyball tournament, third-seeded Worcester State fell to #1 Westfield State in the championship 3-0 this afternoon.
Plymouth, MA --- Worcester State dropped a pair of 3-1 setbacks to Rhode Island College and Plymouth State to close out their regular season this afternoon at PSU’s Foley Gym. The Lancers were paced by senior Joanne Grenier who averaged double figures with 30 assists and 13 digs in both losses.
Worcester, MA --- Junior Kristen Koles had a game-best six kills and eight service aces to help lead Worcester State to a 3-0 triumph over Mass Maritime in MASCAC women’s volleyball action this evening at the Lancer Gym.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Junior middle blocker Becky Lebel has been named this week’s Co-MASCAC Player of the Week for helping lead Worcester State to a conference triumph over Bridgewater State this past Wednesday. For Lebel, this is the second time that she has earned league weekly honors this season.
Bridgewater, MA --- Paced by 15 kills and 20 digs by junior Becky Lebel and a season-best 43 assists by senior Joanne Greiner, Worcester State defeated Bridgewater State, 3-2, in MASCAC women's volleyball action on the road.
Framingham MA --- Worcester State went 1-1 at today's tri-match as they fell to Framingham State, 3-1, in a MASCAC match-up before they finished with a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Husson. Junior Becky Lebel averaged 10.5 kills and 15 digs for the Lancers.
Worcester, MA --- Senior Kristen Koles tallied a game-best 11 kills while classmate Joanne Grenier handed out 35 assists as Worcester State would earn a 3-1 triumph over Becker this evening in non-conference women’s volleyball action at the Lancer Gym.
Willimantic, CT --- Worcester State defeated Bridgewater State, 3-1, before they fell to Wheaton by the same score. Freshman Alyssa Jasper was honored on the All-Tournament Team as she tallied 22 kills on the final day of the competition.
Willimantic, CT --- The women's volleyball team dropped two matches by identical 3-0 scores to host Eastern Connecticut and the University of New England today at the 31st Annual Crabtree Classic. Sophomore Vicki O'Brien notched 24 digs in the setbacks for WSU.
Worcester, MA --- Despite strong efforts from freshman Alyssa Jasper and junior Becky Lebel, Worcester State was defeated, 3-1, this evening in non-conference women's volleyball action this evening. Jasper totaled 10 kills while Lebel added nine kills and seven digs in the loss.
Westfield, MA --- Westfield State defeated Worcester State 3-0 this evening in MASCAC women's volleyball action. Senior Katey Figella and freshman Alyssa Jasper combined for 10 kills while third-year Becky Lebel and sophomore Vicki O'Brien pitched in with eight digs apiece.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State junior outside hitter Becky Lebel has been named MASCAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for helping lead the charge for the Lancers in a 2-2 week. For Lebel, this is her first weekly career honor.
Worcester, MA --- Worcester State defeated Salem State in the opening match, 3-1, before they fell to Daniel Webster, 3-1, in the nightcap. Junior Becky Lebel paced the Lancers with 25 kills and 22 digs.
Brookline, MA --- Worcester State was defeated 3-1 by Newbury on the road this evening in non conference women's volleyball action at Hellenic College. The Lancers were paced by junior Becky Lebel and senior Juliana Tyo who combined for 18 kills in the setback.
