Women's Volleyball Drops Pair At Worcester City Tournament

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State lost a twice to Clark and Assumption, 3-0, at this afternoon's Worcester City Tournament. The standout was junior Becky Lebel who totaled six kills and 27 digs in both setbacks for the Lancers.

The afternoon semifinal of the 2011 Worcester City College Volleyball tournament saw the Cougars of Clark University defeat the Lancers of Worcester State, 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-21).

Senior Amira Trachell (Falmouth, MA) led Clark with 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Mel Conde (Union City, CA) had nine kills, three service aces and four digs.

For Worcester State, junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) came up strong with five kills and four digs,and classmate Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) had 21 digs.

Assumption 3, Worcester State 0 - Consolation - Box Score

The consolation game of the 2011 Worcester City Volleyball tournament saw the Greyhounds of Assumption College defeat the Lancers of Worcester State, 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-17).

Assumption was led by freshman Ann Donahue (Braintree, MA), who had 12 kills and an impressive .647 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, NY) had eight kills, three service aces and five total blocks. Second-year Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, NJ) had 30 assists and five kills.

For Worcester State, Lebel (Millbury, MA) had four kills and 7 digs. Freshman Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) also had six kills as sophomore Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) added 12 digs.

The Blue and Gold (2-5) will open up MASCAC play with a 7 PM night home game at the Lancer Gym against MCLA. Clark defeated WPI, 3-1, for the 27th Annual Worcester City Ttournament crown.
