WESTFIELD, Mass. - A pair of Worcester State University student-athletes have been named Rookies of the Week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, brought to you by GEICO. Women’s lacrosse sophomore Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week, while freshman baseball player Joey Zawisza (Newington, Conn.) earned MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Week.
Hill scored nine goals and three assists for 12 points with six ground balls and four caused causing four turnovers in a 2-1 week for the Lancers. She tallied four goals and an assist in the 18-2 win over Fitchburg State, three goals in the 16-7 win over Gordon College and two goals and two assists in the 17-5 setback to Framingham State.
Zawisza went seven innings, only allowing one hit with two strikeouts to earn the victory in the Lancers’ 13-0 win over Becker College. He took a perfect game into the seventh inning before giving up the lone hit of the contest.
Hill and the women’s lacrosse team will play next at home against Mass. Maritime for the MASCAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zawisza and the baseball team will host Salve Regina University for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2:30 p.m.
