Worcester State to Host Midnight Madness® Basketball Event November 14-15

The first 1,500 Worcester State fans in attendance receive a free Midnight Madness® T-shirt!

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University will be hosting a Midnight Madness® men’s basketball game in their new Wellness Center against Clark University at 12:01 a.m., the morning of November 15.  Festivities will actually begin at 10:30 p.m., November 14.  The event will be the Lancers first basketball game inside the new Lancer Gymnasium.

November 15 is the first day that the NCAA permits collegiate basketball teams to compete in an intercollegiate basketball contest. Therefore, Worcester State will be one of the first men’s basketball teams in the nation to kick off the 2016-17 campaign.

At 10:30 p.m. on the 14th, clubs and organizations from across the campus will be a part of a pre-game “Fanfest” in the Wellness Center’s multi-purpose gymnasium (upstairs and across from the Lancer Gymnasium). The “Fanfest” will include games, an inflatable, a selfie station with the Lancers mascot (Chandler H. Lancer), food, refreshments, music, and much more.

The first 1,500 Worcester State fans attending the game will receive a “BLUE OUT” Midnight Madness® t-shirt compliments of the Worcester State Alumni Association and the Lifetime Lancers. Prior to tipoff, the Worcester State Chorale will perform the national anthem.  The WPI Pep Band will also be in attendance to provide in-game entertainment.

Halftime will include the introduction of the 2016-17 Worcester State University women’s basketball team and a performance from Worcester State’s Dance team.  In addition, one lucky Worcester State student will have the opportunity to shoot for free college textbook rentals for an academic year courtesy of the Worcester State Bookstore! 

The game will be broadcasted live by Charter TV3 (Channel 193 on Charter and Channel 15 on SELCO) at midnight, and then will also replay at 7 p.m. later that evening.

In addition, later that same day, the Worcester State Women’s Basketball Team opens up their 2016-17 campaign at home against Mount Holyoke at 7 p.m. in the Lancer Gymnasium.
