Fitchburg State: 1
Game 2
Worcester State: 9
Fitchburg State: 7
How it Happened:
The opening of the double header set would have a different touch from the earlier wrapped up nine as junior Nolan Turner (Barnstable, MA) would keep the Falcons off the board through six innings with the Falcons keeping pace throughout. It would take a burst in the bottom of the seventh to break the stalemate as the Falcons managed to send across the needed single run to claim the first game 1-0 win.
Game two saw the Lancers grab a run early as first year Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) was brought home on a sac fly by Senior Tyler Smith (Leominster, MA) to find the missing game one run. The bottom of the second had the Falcons tying the game up at 1. The top of the fourth would add another run as first year Christopher Mondesir (Roslindale, MA) would send a ball deep for a sacrifice fly to bring in senior Tyler Smith (Leominster, MA) for Worcester to reclaim the lead. The fifth would see Worcester blow it open as a sophomore Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) would double to left to bring in first year Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) and senior Xavier Quezada (Providence, RI) for a 4-1 lead which only received a cushion when sophomore Tyler Normandie (Lowell, MA) would send Doyle across on a sac fly to center for the 5-1 Lancer lead.
The sixth would add two more for Worcester as sophomore Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) sent a single to left to bring home Mondesir and junior Joe Auger (Lowell, MA) for the 7-1. Fitchburg would find their stride in the bottom of the sixth recording six runs for a 7-7 tie game before Worcester would again reclaim a lead in the seventh off a Normandie homer to bring in Smith to set the game at 9-7. Worcester would make quick work of the bottom of the inning to come away with the 9-7 victory and claim the series with Fitchburg.
What's Next:
The Lancers (18-10, 9-6) return to action on Friday as they journey out to Salem State to take on the Vikings in a single game set with a start time set for 3pm.
