Final
Worcester State: 2
Westfield State: 1
How it Happened:
It would be a pitching duel to start the first conference meeting for the Lancers as junior Gavin Price (Worcester, MA) would take the mound in Worcester's home opener. It would be three and half scoreless innings before Worcester found the first success of the game with a homerun by junior Alan Carpenter (Richmond, RI) to deep right field, sailing over the outfield fence into the softball field to send in sophomore Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) and Carpenter for the 2-0 lead.
The fifth and sixth would continue to see the two teams battle it scoreless before the Owls grabbed a run back in the seventh to cut the lead to a single run.
While the Owls would work to get ahead of the Lancers, Worcester's defense maintained their composure holding on for the 2-1 victory.
Price would go seven innings allowing just a single run while recording seven strikeouts with sophomore Matt Direnzo (Leicester, MA) would claim the save on an inning of work.
What's Next:
Worcester State (3-8, 1-0) will have a day of rest before heading to Westfield on Sunday for a 12pm start for two sevens.
