Lancers Claim the Double over Rams to Remain Undefeated in Conference
Worcester, MA- After sweeping their opening series with the Owls this past weekend, the Lancers baseball team (5-8, 3-0) aimed to keep their MASCAC control rolling as they faced off with the Framingham State Rams in a mid week double header.

How it Happened:
The first game of the doubleheader started with a three-up, three-down first frame from sophomore pitcher Matt Direnzo (Leiecester, MA). In the bottom of the first inning, junior outfielder Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) got the scoring started for the Lancers, getting a homerun to deep right field on the first at bat for them, giving the Lancers an early lead.
The bottom of the second inning saw junior infielder Tyley Normandie (Lowell, MA) get on base due to an error from the third baseman. Normandie was able to steal second base at the next plate appearance. The Lancers were able to get the first run of the game due to another error, this time from the pitcher, allowing Normandie to get home. Next, junior infielder Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) would register a hit to get two on base with one out in the inning. At the next Doyle would launch a ball into right center field for a three-run homerun, extending the lead to 5 runs in the second.
The bottom of the fourth inning saw junior outfielder Cameron Early (Worcester, MA) get on base from a walk, and then stole second and third base and was able to get home as a result of a wild pitch to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Doyle would get his third homerun of the game and his second three-run strike, increasing the score to 9-2 in favor of the Lancers. At the next at-bat, senior infielder Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) would get a base hit that would tally another run for the home team. The Lancers were able to close out the game, letting up three runs in the top of the seventh but defensively held it out for the win.
Direnzo would go six innings, allowing just two runs while striking out seven.

How it Happened:
The top of the first inning saw senior pitcher Zachary Scotti (Warwick, RI) get through the inning with a thrown out to first and a catch directly from the bat of the Framingham player. In the bottom of the inning junior outfielder Alan Carpenter (Richmond, RI) was able to get a sacrifice out to bring in the first run of the game for the home team. Next up, junior infielder Jeremy DeLacruz (Lowell, MA) would register an RBI single for the Lancers with junior outfielder Derek De La Cruz (Providence, Ri) getting another RBI single in the next at bat to increase the lead to 3 three runs early in the first. There would be another run granted to the Lancers due to a wild pitch. Early also would get in on the hitting in the inning with an RBI single for himself increasing the lead to 5 early on. Next up Doyle would get an RBI double to further extend the lead more with the lancers getting another run scored on a pass ball. In the second inning Normandie would register a hit but nothing would come of it.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Lancers were able to register a run due to a wild pitch, which increased the score to 8-0 early on. Doyle would get a bit that would result in a run scored due to an error from the throw to third base.
In the bottom of the third inning Doyle would grab the first homerun of the second game with a two run shot to increase the lead to 12 runs through the first four innings.
Senior pitcher Jack Pawlich (Rocky Hill, CT) would come in for the seventh inning for the Lancers to close out the game and secure the sweep on the day.
Scotti would pitch 5 innings, getting two strikeouts and allowing no runs.

Worcester State (7-8, 5-0) jumps right back into action on Thursday as they take on the Rams in at 3pm to close out their series with Framingham.
