WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State's return specialist, Terrence Gibson (Rockland, Mass.) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Football North All-Stars Second Team Friday afternoon, as voted on by representatives from the region's member institutions.
Gibson was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) First Team in November, and also to the Second Team of the 25th Annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team for his first-year performance with the Lancers Football program.
Gibson was a four-time All-America hurdler for the Lancers, and decided to give football a shot in his last year of collegiate competition. The Worcester State University fifth-year senior had not played the sport since his junior year at Rockland High School in 2009 and was eager just to get back on the field again.
"We are very pleased that Terrence attained such an honor in the short time he was with us," stated head coach Brien Cullen.
Gibson played in nine games for the Lancers and finished his year out with a total of 749 yards on 27 kick returns. Gibson sat at the top of the conference in kick returns, averaging 27.7 yards per return. Gibson's highlight of the season was his 97-yard kick return for a touchdown against Salve Regina on Sep. 5.
Matt Silva from Framingham State University collected the award for Offensive Player of the Year, while Max Nacewicz garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors. Adis Ojeda from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was tabbed as the Offensive Rookie of the Year following a record-setting first season for the Engineers, and Endicott College's William Rivera received the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Western New England University Head Coach Keith Emery was voted as the Coach of the Year by his peers within the region. Seven MASAC players were named to the ECAC All-Star teams.
