Worcester, MA-- The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its 2022 major award recipients and all-conference selections Wednesday following a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Worcester State had six players honored by the LEC in their final season in the conference. Senior defender Emily Saucier (Auburn, MA) leads the Lancers as the lone First Team All-Conference selection. She is joined by sophomore Madison Ferrara (Somerset, MA), seniors Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, MA) and Carly Duff (Warren, MA), who were named to the Second Team, Molly Cutting (Auburn, MA), who was selected for Third Team All-Conference and Maggie Campion (Ashland, MA), who received the 12th man award.
Saucier started in all 21 games for the Lancers this season on defense where she recorded four assists and two defensive saves on the season. Her steady and reliable presence on defense helped lead Worcester to 14 overall wins and three shutouts.
Midfielder Carly Duff appeared in 18 games with 16 starts on the season, only being slowed by a midseason hand injury that forced her to play in a cast for a majority of the second half of the season. Duff was one of the key points on the Lancers attacking corners and a key piece of the team’s transition. She scored two goals on the season, one being a game winner over Keene St. in the regular season. Forward Karalyn Jones tied for fourth on the team with 10 goals on the season, and one game winner versus Anna Maria, and first on the team, and third in the conference for assists this season with 12. Jones led the team and sat in the top 10 of the Little East with total points on the season with a total of 32. Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Ferrara, a 3x LEC Goalie of the Week selection, was the final Lancer named to the second team. Ferrara started in all 21 games for the Lancers this season and leads the conference in goals against average at 1.745, and second in the conference with a .830 save percentage, which currently sees her ranked 11th in all of Division III.
The final selection to the LEC All-Conference teams was senior midfielder Molly Cutting who was selected to the Third Team after a dominant season that saw her record 11 goals and an assist for 23 points on the season. Cutting tied for first on the team, and 11th in conference for goals on the season, and third for Worcester State in points. She also recorded three game winning goals over the season, her first coming in a 2-1 victory over Clark University.
Maggie Campion was awarded this year's 12th player award for Worcester State. The Twelfth Player Award is “presented to a student-athlete in recognition of their positive contributions to the team both on and off the field, who brings forth their best effort in competition, practice and other team activities that positively contribute to the success of the program.”
