Worcester State: 3
Keene State: 6
How it Happened:
The Worcester State field hockey team showed resilience on the road at Keene State, getting strong performances on both ends of the field in a hard-fought 6-3 contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lizzy MacDonald (Medford, MA) was outstanding in net, stopping 19 shots and keeping the Lancers within striking distance all night. Her early saves set the tone as Worcester weathered a fast start from the Owls.
On the offensive end, sophomore defender Kylie Casey (Hubbardston, MA) led the way with two goals off penalty corners, scoring once in the second quarter to tie the game 1-1 and again in the third to pull the Lancers back within a single tally. First-year forward Kaylie Ciccione (Douglas, MA) added her first collegiate goal late in the fourth quarter, giving Worcester a spark as the team built momentum down the stretch.
Though Keene State held on, the Lancers' grit and ability to respond stood out, with multiple players making key contributions in a competitive matchup.
What's Next:
Worcester State (0-3, 0-0) return to action on September 11th to take on the Springfield College Pride in a 7pm battle under the lights.
