Final
Worcester State: 1
Fitchburg State: 0
How it Happened:
The start of the game kept the same pace as their previous meeting with the Falcons as each team worked their way round the field. Worcester would have the first attempt in the cage off an early corner but Fitchburg's defense smothered the chance and continued the back and forth pressure of the game.
The second quarter was more of the same with a slight uptick in the attack with a shot in the cage for each team. With both keepers making the needed saves and the pressure staying high the game moved into half with a 0-0 tie in a crucial conference battle.
It would take all the way until the seven minutes of the game for Worcester State to claim the deciding goal off a perfectly executed corner. Seniors Maggie Nailer (Dartmouth, MA) and Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, MA) would team up for the game winner, with MacGregor managing to redirect Nailor's pass into the back of the cage for the much needed score cracker. Fitchburg would get one last look at the cage, but the shot was blocked up by the defense as Worcester claimed the revenge match win 1-0.
Sophomore Lizzy MacDonald (Medford, MA) would finish with three saves in the win for the Lancers.
What's Next:
Worcester State (4-10, 4-4) will remain on the road for their next match with Framingham State on October 21st with a 7pm start.
