Lancers Take 3rd Place Game Versus St. Joe's
Northfield, VT --- Maurice Horton scored a game-high 33 points, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Worcester State to a 87-79 victory over St. Joseph's (Vt.) in the consolation game of the Ed Hockenbury Classic Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall.

Northfield, VT --- Maurice Horton (Detroit, MI) scored a game-high 33 points, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Worcester State to a 87-79 victory over St. Joseph's (Vt.) in the consolation game of the Ed Hockenbury Classic Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall.
Patrick Hamilton (Templeton, MA) added 21 points for the Lancers, who improve to 3-4 on the season. Kevin Gena (Lynn, MA) chipped in 13 points, while Elijah Sims scored 11 points and handed out a game-high eight assists.
St. Joseph's (Vt.) was led by Brad Drysdale, who scored a team-high 27 points. Tyler Herrington added 21 points and Doug Childs chipped in 19 for the Saints, who are now 2-5 on the year.
St. Joseph's (Vt.) came out of the gates on fire, and led 20-9 at the 12:03 mark of the first half. Worcester State battled back with a 20-8 run to take a 29-28 lead with 4:35 to play before halftime. The game went back and forth for the next couple of minutes, but the Lancers ended the stanza on a 7-0 spurt to take a 41-34 lead into the locker room.
Horton led Worcester State in the first half with 14 points. The Lancers shot 44.7 percent from the field in the opening frame. The Saints were led by Herrington (13 points) and Drysdale (12 points) in the first half. The Saints hit 48.1 percent of their shots in first half.
St. Joseph's (Vt.) came out of the locker room on a hot-streak, starting the stanza on a 14-7 run to erase its deficit and tie the game at 48-48 at the 14:10 mark. The game continued to go up and down over the next six minutes, with Worcester State clinging to a 76-73 edge with 4:44 to play. The Lancers began to pull away, however, using an 8-1 run to take an 84-74 lead with just 2:16 on the clock.
Worcester State shot a blistering 63.0 percent from the floor in the second half. St. Joseph's (Vt.) also shot the ball very well in the second half, as the Saints connected on 59.3 percent of their field goal attempts. The Lancers held a 33-25 rebounding edge.
The Lancers will play Regis at 7 PM on Thursday for their final game this semster.
