Worcester, MA- After a week stretch away from game action, the Worcester State Men's Basketball team (1-3, 0-0) journey to Western New England for a final outing before Thanksgiving.
Final
Worcester State: 57
Western New England: 72
How it Happened:
It was a complete back and forth battle between the Western New England Golden Bears and the Worcester state Lancers with Worcester shooting 54% from the field to the 39.3% for the Golden Bears. The Lancers played a more efficient brand of basketball, while the Bears played with a touch more hustle. They recorded more rebounds as well as went to the line a significant amount of times to keep pace with Worcester's attack. This was indicative of their physical play. Senior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA) led the Lances charge with seven points in the first half coming off the bench alongside Daniel Wondie (Seattle, WA) who tacked on another five. Sophomore Joe Okla (Worcester, MA) recorded six rebounds with his five points to help keep Worcester in the hunt and hold the 32-31 lead into halftime.
The second half opened up with an Okla jumper as Worcester looked to hold onto their narrow lead. A Daguilh and Okal layup would continue to push the Worcester lead but the Golden Bears would step up their defensive pressure and begin to chip their way back into the game and the lead. With just over ten minutes to go, Worcester found themselves down a point and the Western New England jacked up their pressure to extend their lead to 11 points with their switch in defensive tactics slowing down Worcester's attack. The Lancers worked to cut back into the action but the Golden Bears held off the surge with Worcester falling 57-72.
Okla would end the night with eight rebounds with Daguilh leading the Lancers with 14 points on the night.
What's Next:
The Lancers (1-4, 0-0) are back on the court on December 2nd when they journey to Wesleyan for a 6pm start.
