How it Happened:
It was a fast and frantic game from start to finish in tonight's conference meeting with the Falcons. The Worcester State Lancers defended their home floor at Brissette Court with an energetic and well-balanced performance against the Fitchburg State Falcons, using timely baskets, strong defensive rebounding, and contributions throughout the lineup to control the flow of the contest.
The opening minutes featured back-and-forth action as both teams looked to establish rhythm. Worcester settled in quickly, attacking the paint and moving the ball effectively to generate quality looks. The Lancers' defense set the tone early, forcing tough shots and limiting second-chance opportunities as the Blue and Gold began to build momentum.
Midway through the half, Worcester used an efficient scoring stretch to gain separation. Sophomore Camdyn Shoesmith (Bedford, MA) provided a spark inside, finishing at the rim, while the Lancers capitalized on ball movement to keep Fitchburg off balance. Defensive stops led directly to transition chances, allowing Worcester to carry confidence into the latter portion of the half.
Coming out of the break, the Lancers continued to dictate tempo. Kobe Witherow-Bass knocked down a key jumper to halt a Falcon push, while Duvall Price facilitated the offense and created opportunities for teammates. Worcester's ability to rebound on the defensive end proved pivotal, as the Lancers consistently closed out possessions and limited Fitchburg's chances to rally.
Down the stretch, Worcester remained composed. First year Tzar Powell-Aparicio (Lowell, MA) delivered steady production off the bench, attacking the lane and converting at the free-throw line to maintain control. The Lancers' depth showed as multiple players contributed on both ends of the floor, keeping energy high and execution sharp.
With the game in its closing minutes, Worcester's defense rose to the occasion, forcing missed shots and securing rebounds to seal the result. Strong team play, disciplined defense, and balanced scoring lifted the Lancers to a well-earned home victory over the Falcons.
Leading the Lancers was sophomore Joe Okla (Worcester, MA) with 21 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
What's Next:
The Blue and Gold (4-10, 2-1) will jump right back into action on Saturday with a trip to Framingham State to take on the Rams.
