Lancers Secure Victory over Salem in Crucial Conference Battle
Worcester, MA- After a dominating win on Wednesday night over Framingham State, the Worcester State Men’s Basketball team (10-12, 8-3) aimed to solidify their control on the second seed in the post season tournament. Worcester claimed the win, 90-75, over Salem State back in January and a second win would provide a tie break should the teams end the season with the same records.

How it Happened:
The Lancers came out strong at the start of this crucial matchup against Salem State, giving themselves an early 10 point lead which they would be able to maintain and add on to later in the half giving them a 46-33 advantage at the break. Sophomore Joe Okla (Worcester, MA) gave the Lancers a huge boost inside as he had six rebounds and shot a perfect 4-4 in the first half. Sophomore Camdyn Shoesmith (Bedford, MA) also had a big impact for Worcester, scoring nine off the bench and giving their offense a massive energy boost early on in the game. The Lancers looked to continue this high-efficiency offense going into the second half and have their sights on a second straight win against Salem State.
The second half elevated the intensity of the first as each team was focused on the win and a potential first round bye in the post season. Salem would begin on an attacking surge briefly but Worcester quickly stalled their drive as sophomore Jaydon Buckle (Windsor Locks, CT) got an and one to start Worcester's swing. Junior Ethan Daleba (Dorchester, MA) would add to the scoreboard, helping to push the Worcester lead out to 15. Salem would again attempt to bring the game to within single digits, but while Worcester dangled the potential senior Johnny Annan (Worcester, MA) would both defensively and offensively shut down the attempts. First year Tzar Powell- Aparicio (Lowell, MA) would begin his scoring surge working with senior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA) to push the lead out to 18. Salem would again attempt the comeback but Worcester patience and perseverance would meet with success, matching each basket to maintain their control. As both teams looked to their benches to close out the game Worcester managed to secure the 91-81 victory.
Okla would lead Worcester in the action with 16 points and 12 rebounds for double double in the crucial conference action.
