Ice Hockey Forces 3-3 Draw Against Plymouth State

Plymouth, NH --- Worcester State came from behind three time with the last goal coming with 38.5 seconds remaining in regulation as the Lancers pulled out a 3-3 tie with Plymouth State this evening in a Massachusetts Collegiate State Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey game at Hanaway Rink.

PSU completes the weekend at 9-5-2 overall and tied for first place in the MASCAC at 6-2-2 while Worcester State is now 6-8-3 and 3-6-2 in league action. 

Panthers junior Kyle Greco (Hillside, IL) scored the only goal of the first period at the eight-minute mark for his ninth of the season.  Senior Chris Mohar (Broomfield, CO) fired a slap shot from the left circle which was kicked out by WSU senior goalie Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawonda, NY), but the rebound ricocheted to the right side where Greco was waiting and he knocked it into the open net.

Worcester State got on the scoreboard six minutes into the second period.  Freshman Nathan Stanley (Boise, ID) lifted a crossing pass from the left corner into the crease where classmate Stephen Rock (Tulsa, OK) batted the puck out of mid-air and into the net for a power-play goal to even the score at 1-1.

PSU regained the lead on Greco's second goal with four minutes left in the second period at the very end of a five-minute power play as the Panthers' leading scorer tipped a shot from the point by junior Richie Zobak (Evergreen Park, IL) past Kalczynski.

The Lancers answered again just 49 seconds later when freshman Brenton Dyok (Rocklin, CA) got one over PSU goalie Jack Astedt (Angelholm, Sweden) sending the game into the third period tied 2-2.

Plymouth State scored the go-ahead goal at 5:53 of the third period as senior Chris Zaremba (Colorado Springs, CO) – his fifth of the year. 

With 38.5 seconds left in the third stanza the Lancers capitalized on a power-play goal by freshman Luc Neitenbach (Brighton, CO) from the right face-off circle, tying the score at 3-3. 

The two teams played a scoreless overtime frame that highlighted their defenses as the squads only had one shot each. 

PSU finished with a 33-19 advantage in shots.  Kalczynski performed well for the Lancers making 30 saves while Astedt finished with 16 stops.

WSU senior Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA) added an assist on the Lancers first goal of the game giving him 75 career points (86 GP - 28 goals, 47 assists).

The Blue and Gold will host Salem State next Saturday for a 4:30 PM tilt while Plymouth State travels to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday for a 7:30 PM affair.
