Worcester State Men's Ice Hockey Announces 2022-23 Schedule

Worcester, MA - Worcester State University Men’s Ice Hockey is back in action for their 2022-23 season. Head Coach Bob Deraney returns for his second season at the helm for the Lancers. “We look forward to this season,” Deraney states. “We return virtually our entire team from last season. The players have taken advantage of the offseason and are eager to show how much they each have improved and built off of all the success we had last season.” The Lancers finished with an 11-13-2 (8-8-2, MASCAC) record and as the #3 seed in the MASCAC Tournament last season. Worcester State looks to build from this come November 3rd, when they will travel to Dartmouth to face the Corsairs in their first conference matchup of the season.

The Lancers will be led by senior defenseman Max Roth, a MASCAC First Team Defenseman last season, who additionally represented the United States at the Maccabiah Games in Israel this summer, defeating Canada 5-1 to win gold with the Stars & Stripes. Roth, who is Worcester State’s first ever gold medalist, and fellow captains Henry Bruckner, Nicholas Pennucci and Sean Gavin, will lead a talented squad of returners who will merge in skillfully with the new additions to Deraney’s team. “We have all been working hard during the offseason,” says Gavin, “and are excited to prove it on the ice come game time."

The men take the ice on October 28 & 30 for the annual Woo Cup Tournament, before beginning their November slate of games, which will see them start on the road versus UMass-Dartmouth. The Lancers then host two-game, facing off against Rivier and Framingham State. Worcester then hits the road for a three-game stint that sees the team into December, traveling to Plymouth State, Anna Maria and Salem State. A home, away, home schedule will have them welcome the Worcester Ice Arena, Fitchburg State, traveling to Stonehill three days later, then hosting the matchup against Westfield State, which will be played at the DCU center on December 10, to close out the 2022 portion of the year.

The Lancers kick off 2023 at home versus UMass Dartmouth, before heading out on the trail to Saint Anselm, Westfield State & Framingham State. Two home games versus Plymouth State & Salem State see the team stop on home ice before traveling to road matchups at Fitchburg and UMass Dartmouth.

The remainder of the regular season sees the Lancers at home for three games against Morrisville, Westfield State, & Framingham State, before traveling west to Plymouth & Salem for their final road games. The Lancers will wrap up their 2022-23 regular season at home against Fitchburg.
