Westfield, MA — A total of 1,005 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Winter/Spring 2024 All-Academic team that was released earlier today by Commissioner Angela Baumann.
By the time Nick Pennucci was five years old, he was already skating and learning to play ice hockey, an activity that would quickly grow into a lifelong passion.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s Hockey (8-17, 7-14) team traveled to their first-round playoff game to square up with the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs (15-10, 13-8). The Lancers are the 6th seed in this year's MASCAC tournament. Last season, the team hit the 12-win mark and played in the final against Plymouth State and were looking for a chance to head back to Plymouth State with a victory over the Corsairs. Recent form has seen the Lancers average 3.5 goals per game while only conceding 1.75, and they were hoping to keep that trend going tonight.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s Ice Hockey team has two named to this weeks MASCAC honors as junior Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) and first year Michael Schaaf (Nashua, NH) took home the honors. Kubik would end the week with the MASCAC Goalie of the Week while Schaaf was named Rookie of the Week.

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (6-17, 5-14 MASCAC) faced off against the Salem State Vikings (6-16-1, 6-12-1 MASCAC) on the road in a critical conference matchup, the Lancers needing to win their last two games for a shot at the playoffs. The season series is currently split at 1-1. The Lancers convincingly defeated Salem on the road 5-2 in late November. Toys were sold and donations collected prior to the start of the game, with the toss set to occur after the Worcester State Lancers goal of the game. Worcester, who just came off an upset win over currently fourth seeded Westfield State, looked to add another consecutive win to their column in a pivotal rematch with the Corsairs.

Entering tonight, the three-game series between these two teams is tied up at 1-1. Worcester got the best of the Rams in the first matchup on the road, outscoring the opponent 5-1 in early November. The Lancers have lost the last two matchups this year and look to deal Plymouth their first conference loss of the season.

In the last meeting between these two teams back in November, Worcester State was able to come away with the 5-2 victory that night and was primed for a repeat performance at the Fidelity Bank Ice Center.

In the Thursday night showdown, the Lancers will be playing host to MASCAC current 3rd seed Fitchburg State Falcons (7-6-2, 6-3-2) in a pivotal conference battle. Worcester looks to rebound from a hard loss versus UMass-Dartmouth last Saturday that saw them gain a point in overtime action but drop to the Corsairs 4-3.
