Final
Worcester State: 1
UMass-Dartmouth: 2
How it Happened:
In a dominant first period that would see the Lancers outshot the Corsairs, the offensive luck was just not on their side. Worcester would claim the 17-5 shots on goal advantage but the Corsairs would aim not to miss, recording a goal in the opening 20 of action.
A more even second period would see the Lancers and Corsairs trading shots and saves as Worcester looked to find their chance to settle the score. Worcester would have three power play chances in the period, but the wall of UMass defense prevented their scoring chances while Worcester managed to kill two penalties of their own to hold the score to 1-0 until 24 seconds left in the period found graduate student Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) collecting a rebound from a junior Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA) shot off a pass from junior Michael Schaaf (Nashua, NH) to place a goal for Worcester on the scoreboard.
Worcester would find the second period repeating itself in the third as each team traded chances, with each team killing off power plays in a bid to grab a win. With just under four minutes remaining the Corsairs would find success in their power play, going up 2-1. Worcester State would try to match with the final power play as time was expiring, but were unable to sneak one into the net to move the game to overtime.
Junior Salvator Carabelli (Shelby Township, MI) would close out the meeting with 23 saves.
What's Next:
