Lancers Hold on For Win over Terriers

Worcester, MA- After another tie and shoot out under the Lancers Men's Ice Hockey team's (7-6-4, 1-3-3) belt after a meeting yesterday with Anna Maria, Worcester stepped out of conference to take on the Hiram Terriers.

How it Happened:

In the first a lot of physical action between the two gritty teams. But it was the Lancers that went on the board first as sophomore Brock Forrest (Hillsborough, NJ) scored first to put Worcester up 1-0 off the pass from junior Spencer Hecklinger (Denver, CO). Hiram was unable to get any type of offense going in the first as the Blue and Gold outshot them 25-13. It was a penalty ridden first through for both teams that really slowed any chance of quick momentum on either end of the ice.

In the second period it was non stop goal action as five goals were scored. First year Brandon Jung (Seoul, KR) scored his first career NCAA goal to put the Lancers up 2-0 with the help of first year Sean Tyrie (East Quogue, NY). Hiram came back to score two quick goals to tie it up 2-2. Worcester right away turned on the jets and a sophomore Bryce Grandbois (Windsor, ON) goal, again assisted by Tyrie, and a Hecklinger addition would put Worcester up 4-2 going into the 3rd.

Lancers would hold on for the win in the third as first year  Nathan McDougall (Gatineau, FR) put the nail in the coffin on an open net goal after Hiram cut the lead to just a single goal a little over halfway through the period.

Worcester State (8-6-4, 1-3-3) is back in action next Thursday when they host Rivier at 6:40pm at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
