Worcester, MA --- Director of Athletics Sue Chapman has announced Jason Willis as the new head coach of the Worcester State College men’s soccer team. Willis becomes the 15th head coach since the program was established in 1968 as he replaces Christian Battaglia who resigned in November.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior defender Mark Johnson and sophomore midfielder Kerlenz Benjamin have been selected to the 2009 Men’s Soccer All-MASCAC team in voting by the leagues soccer coaches earlier this week. Both teamates received the nod for the first time.
Buzzards Bay, MA --- Mass Maritime defeated Worcester State, 1-0 in double overtime, in MASCAC Men's Soccer action this afternoon. The Lancers had a frustrating game as they outshot the Buccaneers 11-10 in the contest.
Norton, MA --- The regionally-ranked Wheaton College men's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout and ninth of the season during Wednesday afternoon's 2-0 victory over visiting Worcester State College in non-conference action at Keefe Field. Junior Fred Groos picked up eight saves in the setback for WSC.
Westfield, MA --- Westfield State defeated Worcester State this afternoon 6-0 in MASCAC action. The Owls outshot the Lancers 23-5 and sophomore Evan Wilga notched five saves in 65 minutes of action for WSC.
Worcester, MA --- Three Worcester State teammates each notched their first career goal – highlighted by sophomore David Gustafson’s five points – as the Lancers posted a 5-0 shutout this evening in non-conference men’s soccer action at Coughlin Field.
Worcester, MA --- Bridgewater State scored one goal in the first period and two in the second before senior Miguel Vidal broke the shutout in the 82nd minute, but the rally was too late for Worcester State as the Bears won this afternoon 3-1.
Worcester, MA --- Western Connecticut scored a pair of late goals to defeat Worcester State 2-1 this evening. Senior Miguel Vidal notched his second goal of the season in the first period on a penalty kick for the lone Lancer tally.
Worcester, MA --- Clark snapped a 1-1 tie in the 75th minute to help lead the Cougars over Worcester State this evening in a 2-1 victory. Dan Anthony scored the lone goal for the Lancers to end a two-game scoreless streak.
North Adams, MA --- Worcester State drew a 0-0 tie this afternoon with MCLA. The Lancers had a very frustrating game as they outshot the Trailblazers 28-18 and held a 13-1 edge in corner kicks. Keeper Evan Wilga notched his second shutout of the season in the tie.
Keene, NH --- The Keene State defeated Worcester State this evening 1-0 on a marker in the 29th minute. The Owls also outshot the Lancers 24-9 while sophomore Evan Wilga notched 10 saves in the setback.
Worcester, MA --- Worcester State and the Falcons drew a 1-1 tie on the opening weekend of conference play. Worcester State clung to a 1-0 lead until Fitchburg State tied it with 35 seconds left in the contest.
Worcester, MA --- Trinity scored the game-winner in the 89th minute to post a 2-1 victory over Worcester State this evening. Senior Mark Johnson had knotted things up for the Lancers in the 86th to knot things up for WSC.
Portland, ME --- Southern Maine downed Worcester State this afternoon 1-0 in non conference men's soccer action. Sophomore Evan Wilga led the effort as he stopped two of the three shots he saw on goal.
Standish, ME --- Worcester State defeated Saint Joseph's, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon at Westerlea Way Field. Senior Miguel Vidal dished a helper on the game-winning tally and he sent in the insurance goal five minutes later to help secure the win. Sophomore Evan Wilga stopped five shots in his first shutout.
Schenectady, NY --- Worcester State was defeated over the weekend by scores of 4-0 and 6-0 by RPI and Union at the Union Invitational. Sophomore Evan Wilga was the lone standout for the Lancers as he tallied eight saves in each contest.
