16 Receive MASCAC Winter All-Academic Team Honors

Westfield, MA --- Junior teamates Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA), Kevin Conant (E. Longmeadow, MA), Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA), Teddy Ferreira (Mansfield, MA), Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) and Robert White (Ludlow, MA) highlighted 16 student-athletes who were recognized on the MASCAC Winter All-Academic team as announced by league publicist Emily Dickelmann.

Other honorees included senior classmates Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) and Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) along with sophomores Benjamin Dussault (Freetown, MA), Ryan Filliger (Haverhill, MA) and Dana Perry (Mendon, MA).

Ryan Lindsay (W. Boylston, MA), Charles Newman (Westfield, MA), Issac Ofori (Worcester, MA/North), Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) and Will Whearty (Walpole, MA) were all freshmen who were also recognized with certificates.

Johnson has been honored for three out of his four years with All-Academic laurels while Corum, Dussault, Ferreira, Perry and White picked up honors for the second time in each of their respective careers.

The Blue and Gold had the third most student-athletes recognized in the MASCAC, among men's track and field teams.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based GPA during their season of competition.

Under the direction of head coach Al Halper, the men's track and field team earned their second consecutive finish inside the Top 10 at the Division III New England Championships while claiming their highest-ever finish at the Open New England Championships (Tied 18th place) and at the ECAC Division III Championships (Tied 3rd place).

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 64 overall selections on the league winter academic honor roll for the third highest sum in the league. The total number of student-athletes also marked the highest since the conference began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
