Men's Track Notches Fourth At MASCAC Championships

North Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Jim Macera (Paxton, MA) tossed a top finish in the hammer throw (48.20 meters) and a third place throw in the discus (39.39 meters) to help lead Worcester State to a fourth place finish at the MASCAC Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Fitchburg State ended Westfield State’s run of championships as the Falcons tallied 217 points to Westfield State’s total of 216. Bridgewater State was in third with 81 points as the Lancers scored 64 points followed by Mass Maritime (31) and Salem State (10).

The Lancers notched 40 points followed by Bridgewater State (29.5), Mass Maritime (17) and Salem State (3).

In the New England Alliance standings, with the teams from the Little East, Southern Maine (155.5) edged out Fitchburg State (148.5) for the top spot as WSC tallied 40 team points in seventh.

Junior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) had MASCAC honors in the 400 as he placed second (50.41) while sophomore Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.69). Both teammates then aided the cause as they helped their respective relay squads place.

Starling along with senior Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) and freshman teammates Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) and Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) clocked third in the 4x100 with a time of 44.68 while the 4x400 relay team of Stahelski along with first-year teammates John Parella (Wilmington, MA), Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and Chad Binnette (Oxford, MA) finished fourth overall with a time of 3:37.24.

Parella placed third in the 400 meter hurdles (57.95) while Paquin and Leeds placed third (6.77m) and fourth (6.57m) in the long jump, respectively.

Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) cleared 3.59 meters for second in the pole vault.

Next week select Lancers will compete at the Division III New England Championships.
