Page Breaks Pole Vault School Record at Trinity Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Worcester State men's track & field team saw some great performances this Saturday at the Trinity College Invitational, as a school record was broke by sophomore pole vaulter, Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.). The Lancers saw five additional wins and numerous personal records (PR) on the day.

"We had a pretty good day despite the weather turning out less than cooperative," commented head coach Al Halper.  "With it being colder and rainier than expected, we were looking to compete well and hope for the best."

Page claimed the top spot in the pole vault as he not only won the event with at 4.40m, but hit a PR and broke the Worcester State University school record. Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) followed at 2^nd place (3.80m), and Ian Merry (W. Brookfield, Mass.) came in 4^th with a PR (3.35m).

Worcester State University saw two top performances in the jumps, as Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) won the high jump competition (1.98m) and Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) won the long jump (6.23m). Harmon and Colbert Agyei (Worcester, Mass.) came in tied at 2^nd in the triple jump (12.54m). Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, Mass.) came in 3^rd in the high jump (1.78m), while Edward Boamah (Worcester, Mass.) and Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.) came in 5^th and 8^th, respectively.

Worcester State's throwers dominated, as usual. Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) won the shot put competition at 15.79m. Elmer Acuna (Newton, Mass.), Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) and Jon Sylvia (Uxbridge, Mass.) followed at 4-5-6-7^th places, respectively. Weeks also won the discus throw at 50.08m. Vieira followed at 2^nd place with a top throw of 45.48m, while Roumanos and Acuna came in at 3^rd and 4^th places, respectively. Vieira and Weeks captured 2^nd and 3^rd places in the hammer throw, as Vieira hit a PR of 51.44m. Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) followed with a 6^th place finish in the event (44.47m).

Isaac Ofori (Webster, Mass.) guided the team in the hurdles as he came in 4^th in the 400 Meter at a PR of 57.83. Eric Sanford (Peabody, Mass.) placed 7^th in the same event, while Page competed in the 110 Meters (17.34).

Michael Ricci (Peabody, Mass.) saw a stunning performance in the 5000 Meter Run as he completed the run in 15:45.53, which was good for a personal record and 7^th place. With this result, he currently stands at 2^nd in the MASCAC.

The Lancers saw a respectable performance from Richard Custodio (Wakefield, Mass.) in the 3K steeplechase, as he completed for the first time ever in the race, finishing in a time of 11:02.29.  "As he learns to better maneuver the water jump and other hurdles, he should steadily improve and be quite good at the event," said Halper.

Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.) led the Lancers in the sprints categories, as he came in 2^nd in a time of 22.67. Robinson also came in the top-8 and placed 7^th in a time of 23.68. Phillip Bynum (Peabody, Mass.) took 7^th place in the 100 Meter Dash (11.40). Boamah notched 6^th place in the 400 Meter Dash at 50.93.

Middle distance runners Marques Johnson (W. Hartford, Conn.) and Jeffrey Davis (Old Lyme, Conn.) came in 8^th (2:00.79) and 10^th (2:02.39) places, respectively, in the 800 Meter. Devin Luce (Milford, Mass.) ran the 1500 in a time of 4:16.07.

Worcester State's 4x400 Meter Relay won the event in a time of 3:26.60. The team was made up of Johnson, Davis, Robinson, and Marc George (Framingham, Mass.). The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Luce, Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, Mass.), Mitchell Cupp (N. Attleboro, Mass.), and Sanford came in 2^nd (8:52.90).

"This week was a good tune up meet to get ready for next week's MASCAC/Alliance Championships," concluded Halper.
