Lancers Finish Third at the Regis Spring Classic
Worcester, MA- On a windy Friday, the Worcester State Men’s Track and Field team went full force at the Regis Classic as they looked to continue their success from last week’s meet at UMass-Dartmouth. The Lancers were led by the top marks of senior Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) who claimed first, second and fifth in the Long Jump, 200m and 100m while helping to lead Worcester to a team 70 points and third at the meet.
Worcester, MA- On a windy Friday, the Worcester State Men's Track and Field team went full force at the Regis Classic as they looked to continue their success from last week's meet at UMass-Dartmouth. The Lancers were led by the top marks of senior Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) who claimed first, second and fifth in the Long Jump, 200m and 100m while helping to lead Worcester to a team 70 points and third at the meet.
Jacques would be a force on the day claiming the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 6.96m, leading his group of five in the pit. Falling in seventh behind Jacques was junior Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) with a 5.94m mark, first year James Almeida (Auburn, MA) in 11th and senior Nicholas Violette (Webster, MA) in 12th with 5.60m and 5.49m measurements respectively. Senior Giovanni Casiano (Oxford, MA) would claim 18th on a 5.08m leap. Jacques would also be the lone qualifier out of the 100m race to claim 5th in a gusty wind with a time of 11.40 seconds. His day's events would not stifle him though in the 200m, where he claimed 2nd with a 22.61, leading the Lancer running contingent alongside Boudreau again who came in 13th with a 23.46. Joining the duo was sophomore Tyshawn Craigg (Springfield, MA), 14th at 23.54, first years Albert Kyereme (Springfield, MA), 18th at 23.86, Almeida in 24th with a time of 24.62, Nicholas St. George (Grafton, MA) in 31st at 25.44, CJ Harrell (Holland, MA) in 33rd at 25.50 and Patrick Harvey in 34th with 25.76. Violette would also join the group for 28th at 24.78. Wrapping up the spring section of the track would be junior Alan Gomez (Clinton, MA) who would take 13th with a 57.18 in the 400m just edging out Harvey who came across in 15th with a 58.64.
In the mid range portion of the race senior Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) would take home 3rd in the 800m with a 2:07.13 with first year Taku Pettengill (Shirley, MA) claiming 6th with a 2:10.06. Fellow first year Ryan Brown (Salem, MA) would finish in 8th just milli seconds behind at 2:10.78. Senior Brian O'Leary (Marlborough, MA) would take 10th at 2:12.13 with junior Andrew Stokes in 18th with 2:25.59. In the 5,000m first year Dan Smith (Medway, MA) would take 9th with a 17:22.22 with junior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) in 15th with a 19:22.72. In the waterbound portion of the race to kickoff the day sophomore Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, MA) would claim second with a time of 11:11.75.
In relay fun Almeida, Craigg, Kyereme and first year Michael Mireku (Worcester, MA) would take home 2nd in the 4x100m in a blistering 44.09. Mireku would join O'Leary, Pettengill and Gomez for the 4x400 where they would claim first in a time of 3:46.10.
In the remaining field events Violette would add a third place finish to his day in the pole vault, reaching 2.60m while Mireku would claim 5th in the triple jump on a 12.24m leap. In the pit, sophomore Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) would lead the Lancer with a fourth place 12.62m mark in the shot put and 14th, on a 30.32m, in the hammer before wrapping up with a 10th in the discus on a 35.05m toss. Senior Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) would take home two sixth place finishes in the Hammer and shot put with 38.98m and 12.24m respectively then add in a third place in the discus with a 38.16m. First year Gavin Delgado (Douglas, MA) would take home 11th in the shot put with an 11.59m and ninth in the discuss with a 35.79m while fellow first years Dominic Beauchesne (Dudley, MA) would claim 25th with a 9.40m and Zachary Stewart in 27th with a 9.20m. In the Hammer, first year Hunter Cormier (Westminster, MA) would take 9th with a 34.91m while junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) would claim 18th on a 28.31m toss. Cormier would round out his day with a 22nd in the discus from a 28.69m landing. In the final throwing events on the day junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) would claim 15th on a 38.75m toss while first year Zachary Stewart would take 27th with a 27.22m throw.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday as they head to the BSU Bears Invite in their first taste of the MASCAC Championship in three weeks.
