Lancers Drop Set to the Pride
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State bats were as cold as the temperatures outside, getting swept at Springfield College today by the scores of 4-2 and 9-2. The Lancers have dropped 4 in a row, all since returning from sunny and warm South Carolina, for an overall record of 8-6. It doesn't get any easier for WSU as they get right back at it with 4:00 double-headers on Tuesday (home opener) and Wednesday against cross-town rivals Clark on 3/28 and at 2022 College World Series participant WPI on 3/29.

The Lancers have dropped 4 in a row, all since returning from sunny and warm South Carolina, for an overall record of 8-6. It doesn't get any easier for WSU as they get right back at it with 4:00 double-headers on Tuesday (home opener) and Wednesday against cross-town rivals Clark on 3/28 and at 2022 College World Series participant WPI on 3/29.
After being postponed yesterday, the squads played a quick twin-bill despite the windy conditions. In Game 1, senior Jen Thornburn (Groton, MA) (2-2) took the loss going 6 innings, yielding 3 earned runs off 7 hits, 4 walks, along with 7 strikeouts. The Pride, playing out of the NEWMAC, jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before WSU scored its runs in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Rachel Sinclair (Westminster, MA)scored when first year Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) drew a bases-loaded walk, then sophomore Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA) scored the second run on a fielder's choice by senior Naraylee Baez (Northborough, MA). First year Emma LaPoint (Westfield, MA) was the only Lancer with 2 hits.
Game 2 saw the Lancers take a 2-1 lead in the 4th inning on a Lapoint single scoring Sinclair, and a sophomore Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) single bringing home teammate Tammaro. Junior Emily Barlett (Lowell, MA) took the loss going 3.2 innings giving up 8 hits, 9 earned runs, and 3 walks. Sophomore Sarah Gosselin (Charlton, MA) pitched the last 2.1 innings yielding 2 hits. No Lancer collected multiple hits. The Pride roared for 8 runs in the fourth inning on 6 hits which included 3 doubles.
On the day WSU collected 12 hits and scored 4 runs while Springfield had 17 hits with 13 runs. Neither team made a fielding error in either game.
