Gasbarro Records 100th Career Hit to Lead Offensive Charged Lancers

Worcester, MA- After a double victory day on day two, the Worcester State Softball team (2-1, 0-0) returned to action this morning in another double game set. Game one would see the Lancers meet on the diamond with the University of Rutgers-Camden before wrapping up their day versus Juniata to close out day three action in Florida.

How it Happened:

After an early run grab from Rutgers-Camden in the second Worcester would respond with seven defining runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The action would kick off with an Junior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) triple who was quickly sent across the plate by sophomore Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error on the pitcher to free up Adamuska to get home. A further faulty play by the defense on a senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) grounder would send Brouillard back to the dugout with a 2-1 Worcester lead. The errors abounded for a stretch leading to Lanpher and  senior Jordan Geloso (Rutland, MA) across the plate off a junior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) grounder to second. Junior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) would nearly clear the plates on the next at bat with a triple to center field that found the Lancers up 5-1. Senior Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA) would send Keefe home while Brouillard who scored the opening RBI would record her second of the inning with a line drive to left field to send home junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA).

It would be a quiet remainder of the game with Rutgers-Camden grabbing one more in the third before Worcester closed out the action in the sixth with Junior Camden Heenan (Webster, MA) single that would score Keefe and Lapoint for the eventual 9-2 game one victory.

Sophomore Taylor Coonan (Grafton, MA) would claim the win, allowing just four hits in her start.

In the second game action, Worcester would quickly jump into action versus Juniata College. The Lancers would claim the initial lead in the top of the second as first year Laurel Field (Holden, MA) would send an attempt towards second allowing Gasbarro on third to race home. Juniata would use their time at bat in the second to equal the game but that would only hold until the fourth when Brouillard would get her own run of the day after Field knocked a sacrifice to second that Brouillard busted from first to third on, before being carried home by a Tammaro single. Tammaro would record run three for Worcester after a collision at home on a Lanpher single to continue the Lancer offensive attack. Lapoint would then drop a single in the gap at second for run four as Lanpher raced across the plate. The scoring would wrap up for Worcester off a wild pitch that would bring in run five on the feet of Lapoint.

Juliana would close the gap in the bottom of the fourth with two runs of their own but that only further ignited the Lancers. Fifth inning action started with contact from Brouillard that led to an early error and runner on base. Field would then double deep to left field, sending Brouillard home. Later in the inning Lapoint would single on a zipper to center field. With a deep send from center, Juniata would attempt to grab the out hit a bobbly by the catcher instead leading to Lanpher and Junior Carisa Andrew's (Medfield, MA) crossing the plate for an 8-3 lead. An error on the next play would bring Lapoint back into the dugout and Worcester with a 9-3 lead.

After relieving Senior Sarah Gosselin (Charlton, MA) after a strong start, sophomore Peyton Maloney (West Boylston) would shut down the Eagles in fifth. Looking to wrap the game up early, Worcester would record five additional runs in the sixth as Field would send a line drive, this time to center, to bring home Gasbarro. Lanpher, with the help of an error in second, would bring Field and Brouillard across home for the 12-3 lead with the final two runs of the game coming off a Lapoint grounder to bring Lanpher and Andrews in for thirteen and fourteen. Maloney would take just four batters and six pitches to wrap up the game in the bottom of the sixth as the Lancers again claimed a double victory day in Florida.

Worcester State (4-1,0-0) are back in action on Thursday when they take on Coe and Augsburg University. First pitch for game one is set for 9am.
