Worcester, MA- The 2025 MASCAC Champion Worcester State softball team kicked off their season with a Clermont, Florida spring break battle with the Meredith Avenging Angels in their first action on the day.
Final
Worcester State: 4
Meredith: 2
How it Happened:
The Avenging Angels would get on the board first in the first inning of some smart base running and play calls and add a second run in the fifth for a 2-0 lead before the Lancers took charge of the game. The bottom of the fifth inning found Worcester grabbing runs and the lead. To start off the action senior Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) would send the ball to the short stop and after a run down and slight bobble by Meredith, senior Camden Heenan (Webster, MA) found the gap in the chaos to score the opening run. A single from senior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) to the gap in left center would claim the lead for the Blue and Gold as senior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) and first year Zoie Stevens (Claremont, NH) would cross the plate for the 3-2 lead. An insurance run was pushed across with senior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) dropping a single into center field providing time for pinch runner Carisa Andrews (Medford, MA) to book it from second for the 4-2 score.
The sixth and seventh found each time looking for a chance to claim the victory and while the Avenging Angels worked runners into scoring position junior Peyton Maloney (West Boylston, MA) and the Lancers would hold off a comeback attempt to claim the season opening win.
Maloney would throw the complete game allowing just one earned run with two strikeouts.
What's Next:
With the conclusion of game one the Lancers (1-0, ,0-0) will jump right back into action as they take on the Smith College Bears for game two on opening day.
