Lancers Sweep AMCATs in Final Home Regular Season Conference Battle
Worcester, MA- After claiming a big win over Lasell earlier in the week the Worcester State Softball team (18-13, 9-3) turned their focus back to conference play as they hosted Anna Maria College in a double header in their second to last conference series of the regular season. Today’s games were played in conjunction with the Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund. The Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund aims to provide a robust curriculum that supports peer-to-peer education regarding early cancer detection. The importance of Raising Awareness in our young people, particularly Worcester State students, has never been more important and can effectively expedite important educational initiatives to curb the prevalence of late-stage cancer detection and increase longevity. Donations are currently being accepted at alumni.worcester.edu.

How it Happened:
Worcester State would make a huge statement to open the game getting seven hits and runs in the inning. Graduate student Amanda Adamsuka (Dudley, MA) would get things started with a single to short and then senior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) would follow it up with another single, before fellow senior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) would hit an RBI double to right field to bring in Adamsuka, then wild pitches by the AMCATs would bring in Lapoint on a wild pitch and advancing Gasbarro to third. Senior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) and senior Camden Heedan would get walked bringing the bases loaded for senior Carisa Andrews (Medford, MA) and Andrews would answer with a single on a bunt to bring in Gasbarro, extending the lead. Senior Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) would then ground out to second base which would allow Heedan to score. Next up, Andrews would score on a wild pitch. Adamuska would net an RBI single that would send in Brouillard for the score.
In the bottom of the third, Tammaro, Brouillard, and Adamuska would all find themselves on base and Gasbarro would find contact and get a 3 RBI double to extend the lead to 10-0 to end the third.
Anna Maria, in the top of the fifth, would get on the board with a run but junior Taylor Coonan (Grafton, MA) would regroup and finish strong forcing a groundout to get the mercy win 10-1.
Bella Gasbarro and Emma Lapoint would have good days at the plate going ⅔ while Cali Brouilard and Amanda Adamuska would go 2/2. Coonan on the bump would go the distance going five innings giving up six hits giving up a run and punching out two.

How it Happened:
In game two, Both teams would have a scoreless pitchers duel as both teams would match each other on the stat sheet. In the bottom of the third, Worcester would have a chance to drive in a run but the AMCATs would shut down the momentum to keep the score at zero a piece.
Top of the fifth would see the Lancers get into a hole as an error would give the AMCATs two runners in scoring position, however junior Peyton Maloney (West Boylston, MA) would answer the challenge getting three straight punchouts following the error to keep the game scoreless. Bottom of the frame would see deja-vu for the Blue and Gold but this time they would strike as Brouillard and Lapoint would both reach on base with singles and then Keefe would clear the bases with a two run RBI double and then first-year Zoie Stevens (Claremont, NH) would bring Keefe in on a RBI single to put three on the board for the inning.
What's Next:
The Blue and Gold (20-13, 11-3) will hit the road on Wednesday as they journey west to Amherst to take on the Mammoths for two games starting at 3pm.
