El-Qasem Tabbed WACBA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Worcester, MA --- Junior Shannen El-Qasem (Rutland, MA) has been honored as this week's Worcester Area County Basketball (WACBA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for helping pace the Lancers to a 1-1 week.
El-Qasem averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds which included 19 points and 10 boards in a 54-47 triumph over Fitchburg State. She logged .476 from the floor for the week (10-21) in both of her starts.
This season, El-Qasem is third on the team in rebounding while she is fourth in points per game (7.9 PPG) and field goal percentage (.383). In nine out of a possible 12 conference games, El-Qasem is among the top 20 in the MASCAC in offensive boards (26 – 9th), shooting percentage (.409 – 10th), caroms per contest (6.7 – 10th) and total rebounds (60).
In 65 career games (50 starts), El-Qasem has boosted totals of 7.8 points per game, 5.5 boards per contest and 1.2 assists. From her position as a forward she has helped anchor a defense that has yielded the fewest points per game in each of the last three seasons – 2013-14 (61.5 PPG), 2012-13 (54.4 PPG) and 2011-12 (57.1 PPG).
The sixth-seeded Lancers head to #3 Framingham State in the opening round of the MASCAC Tournament in a 7 PM matchup.
