Worcester, MA- After a tough battle earlier in the week, the Worcester State Women's Basketball team (1-2, 0-0) are looking to get back to their winning ways with a trip to Lasell.
Final
Worcester State: 50
Lasell: 68
How it Happened:
The first quarter opened with junior guard Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) knocking down a three off a Lasell turnover to get the scoring started. The Lasers responded with a 20–0 run before junior guard Ayden Gulliver (Cranston, RI) halted the surge with a jumper to get the Lancers back on the board. The quarter closed on a high note as first-year guard Deron Tokcan drained another three, giving Worcester State some momentum heading into the second.
The Lancers carried that spark into the next frame, putting together a small scoring run that cut the Lasers' lead in half. Both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter, but Lasell managed to maintain its advantage, sending Worcester State into halftime trailing by 14.
Lasell opened the third quarter with another strong run to extend its lead. Tokcan once again broke through for the Lancers, scoring the team's first points of the half. Junior Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) followed with a tip-in to add to the effort. Worcester State closed the quarter with nine quick points, narrowing the gap and keeping themselves within reach.
In the fourth, Gulliver sparked the offense with a three-pointer as the Lancers continued to fight to cut into the deficit. Worcester State posted its most productive quarter of the night, but the comeback fell short as Lasell secured a 68–50 victory.
What's Next:
Worcester State (1-3, 0-0) will continue their road trip start with a trip to New England College on Tuesday at 6pm.
