Final
Worcester State: 70
Keene State: 78
How it Happened:
Worcester State started off strong on offense as junior Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) led the offense with 11 points as well as rebounds with 5. They stayed strong on defense to finish the first quarter leading Keene State 24-8 after surging ahead in the early action of the game. The second quarter would find the Owls starting to settle in on both defense and offense holding Worcester to just 19 points while jumping up with 31 points to close the lead and set the score at 43-43.
The Owls would keep their momentum from the second quarter strong in the third while the Lancers looked to reclaim their control from the first. First year Derin Tokcan (Istanbul, TR) would begin the offensive momentum in the third with seven points to keep Worcester on track with the Owls. Junior Aydan Gulliver (Cranston, RI) would tally onto Tokcan to push the third quarter score to 56-61 as the Blue and Gold looked to push for the win in the fourth.
Worcester would have a full offensive attack from the Blue and Gold with juniors Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) and Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) tacking in points with senior Mia Haynes (Worcester, MA) and Tokcan as they worked to regain control of the game. The team would work the court and put tight pressure on the Owls forcing them under 30% shooting in the quarter. Even with their renewed offensive success, the struggles from the free throw line limited the counter balance as Worcester fell 70-78.
Smith would claim a double double on the night with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three steals and three blocks in a dominant showing in the court.
