Worcester, MA- in the final meetings of 2025 the Worcester State Women's Basketball team (3-5, 0-0) travelled down to Transylvania for the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament where they kicked off the tournament with a Monday night meeting with Spalding.
Final
Worcester State: 42
Spalding: 66
How it Happened:
The opening action would see a slow start from both teams after a junior Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) layup would start the scoring action. The Golden Eagles would work to tie it up at two with just under three minutes of time off the clock. The Lancers would pull a slow lead into the first quarter off the work of juniors Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) and Aydan Gulliver (Cranston, RI), but a late surge would bring Spalding back into contention late in the opening 10 minutes.
Worcester would work to hold onto their single point lead from the first, in the second but the Golden Eagles had re-strategized. Worcester was still hitting their baskets, led by Waldron, Smith and first year Lena Malymina (Franklin, MA), Spalding would find the gaps for the 29-24 lead into half as they outrebounded the Lancers 29-14 in the half.
Smith would keep her offensive swell going in the third but while Worcester worked to stay at pace with Spalding, they managed to capitalize on some turnovers in the pressure to expand on their lead. The Lancers put up a tight fight in the final quarter as they worked to slow down the Golden Eagles, but Spalding held off their push for the 66-42 victory.
Waldron would lead the Lancers with 12 points and nine rebounds in the game's action, while senior Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) would record four assists.
