Lancers Complete Third Period Comeback for Victory over Raiders
Worcester, MA- after making it six straight wins last night with a 5-0 shutout victory over Framingham State the Worcester State Women’s Ice Hockey team (12-8, 9-1) looked to solidify their hold on the post season top seed as they squared off with the current second seeded Rivier.

How it Happened:
River University struck first, finding the back of the net early in the first period for a quick 1-0 lead. From there, both teams applied steady offensive pressure with. Worcester State pushed back with a four minute run of shot attempts with no shots achieved by the Raiders. River's defense was able to keep the Lancers from scoring, despite the back and forth action, ending the first period 1-0.
The intensity carried into the second period with both teams attacking the net with force, but the defense on both sides putting up a fight. The Lancers had 37 shot attempts compared to the Falcons 26 but were unable to jump the scoring hurdle.
The third period was a different tune for Worcester as sophomore Emily Johns (Clinton, MA) would capitalize on a power play opportunity for the tying goal off the fast passes of senior Cailey Ran (Acton, MA) and junior Abbey Millman (Georgetown, MA). Just over a minute later junior Katarina Precobb (Wrentham, MA) would put Worcester ahead with the help of teammates sophomore Leyla Tiernan (Anchorage, AK) and junior Caroline Melanson (Wakefield, MA). Both teams would be locked into the final minutes as crucial post season seeding points rested with the outcome. With just seconds left on the clock Worcester would put the game away as Ryan would send the puck past the Raiders keeper for the 3-1 victory.
Czerniawski would record 28 saves in the outing for a crucial Lancers victory.
What's Next:
Worcester State (13-8, 10-1) is back in action next Friday as they head to the DCU center to take on Anna Maria as the lead in for the Worcester Railers Women in Sports Day game. The game is scheduled for a 3pm puck drop and tickets to the game are dual admission to both the Lancers and Railers action.
