WORCESTER, Mass. - The 2020 competition schedule was announced on Wednesday afternoon by Worcester State University women’s lacrosse head coach Kelly Downs.
Worcester State’s 2020 campaign will feature 17 regular season contests, with eight played at John F. Coughlin Field.
The season kicks off on February 26 when the Lancers travel to Smith College for a 4 p.m. start. When the teams met last season, Worcester State narrowly pulled out a 7-6 win. The first home game for the Lancers will be played on March 7 for Worcester State’s first ever meeting with St. Lawrence University in women’s lacrosse.
Worcester State will enjoy its Spring Break in Clearwater, Florida, playing three neutral site games in the Sunshine State. The Lancers are scheduled for meetings with Farmingdale State College (March 16), Albright College (March 18), and the College of Mount Saint Vincent (March 19) while on the trip.
Upon returning north, Worcester State will open conference play on March 28 with a road trip to Salem State. A week later, on April 4, the Lancers will host Mass. Maritime in their annual One Love Game in honor of University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love. The contest is a rematch of last year’s MASCAC Quarterfinal, which saw the Lancers prevail 12-6.
Worcester State will wrap up its 2020 regular season on April 25 with a MASCAC Semifinal rematch against Framingham State. The game will serve as Worcester State’s Senior Day, and the annual women’s lacrosse Alumni Game will immediately follow the final whistle.
The MASCAC Tournament will take place on April 28, April 30, and May 2.
“I am very eager for the 2020 season to get underway,” said Downs. “We have a very competitive non-league schedule that should prepare us nicely for our MASCAC opponents. I think our team is ready for the challenge and I am excited to see what lies ahead.”
