How It Happened
The Lancers came out fast in Biddeford, recording both a shot and a corner kick in the opening minute. After trading chances with the Nor'easters, Worcester broke through midway through the first half. Senior Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) capitalized on a defensive breakdown, collecting the ball inside the box and slotting it into the left corner for the game's first goal. Worcester continued to press but took a 1–0 lead into halftime.
UNE ramped up the pressure after the break, forcing junior goalkeeper Ella Gumienny (Douglas, MA) into action as she turned away several attempts to preserve the lead. The match remained tight until the 87th minute, when junior Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) provided a key insurance goal to put the Lancers up 2–0.
That cushion proved critical, as UNE answered just a minute later to cut the deficit in half. The Nor'easters surged forward in the closing minutes, but Worcester's defense stood tall to secure the 2–1 win.
Gumienny finished with nine saves in the victory.
