Antonelli Scores Game-Winner in 1-0 Edge over Southern Maine; Lancers Tabbed LEC Regular Season Champions
GORHAM, Maine –Worcester State University has been tabbed the Little East Conference (LEC) regular season champions after wrapping up the LEC regular season play on Saturday (Oct. 21) by defeating the University of Southern Maine Huskies 1-0.

1ST HALF
Worcester State outshot the hosts by a 10-3 margin in the first half. However, Southern Maine's goaltender, McKenzie Cormier (Hiram, Maine) turned away eight shots to preserve the 0-0 score at the intermission.
2ND HALF
With the score stalled at 0-0, Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) notched her eighth goal of the season tipping in a loose ball in front of the cage for the game-winner in the 40th minute. The Lancers pressured throughout searching for to add a goal to its lead, but Southern Maine's defense and Cormier continued to play tough, resulting in the 1-0 win.
CRUNCH THE NUMBERS
- Worcester State's Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.) led the Lancers with eight shots (5 SOG), while Anonelli logged five (3 SOG).
- The Huskies had a few opportunities in its offensive third, but the Lancers did not allow its goalkeeper senior Kathryn Salemme (Boxborough, Mass.) to face a shot on net in the win.
- Cormier finished the game with 12 saves, while sophomore Makayla Garvin (Springvale, Maine) came up with a defensive save.
- Worcester State held a 20-3 edge in shots, and a 16-2 margin in penalty corners.
UP NEXT
Worcester State wraps up the regular season on Thursday (Oct. 26) when they host Becker for a senior night game, beginning at 7 p.m. The Lancers begin playoffs next Saturday (Oct. 28) when they host the No. 8 seed, Western Connecticut, also in a 7 p.m. matchup.
