How it Happened:
It was a back and forth first period in the opening conference play as the Lancers were able to record 14 shots to the Vikings 11, but each team's defense was impressive. A few shots hitting off the pipe was nothing to the constant action junior Donovan Alfama (Douglas, MA) faced to keep the game at 0-0 into the first intermission.
The energy of the first would carry into the second as each team continued to look for their chances. The Vikings would find their first chance after Worcester successfully killed off the Vinings second power play of the game, Salem was able to turn the engines back on and send in the first goal of the game. It would take a Viking penalty and nearly three minutes off the clock for Worcester to even it up on power play action. Junior Michael Schaaf (Nashua, NH) would collect the passes around the box from first yet Myles Kidd (Norwood, MA) and senior Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN). The rest of the period would see intense action from both teams but it would remain tied into the second intermission.
The third period and overtime would follow the same rhythm as neither team was able to find the key to the scoring success. The game would conclude in a shootout with Worcester claiming the first goal but Salem claiming the tie and the winner in sudden death to take the Shootout win.
What's Next:
The Lancers (2-0-1, 0-0-1) are back in action on Saturday with their first true away game with a trip to Johnson & Wales at 7pm.
