Final
Worcester State: 5
Framingham State: 1
How it Happened:
The Lancers in the first period was a solid team effort with the team that has had previous issues on offense looked solid against an aggressive Framingham defense. Both teams were unable to find the net in the first though Worcester held the 16-5 shot advantage. The Lancers would look to score in the second and get the advantage starting the period with a power play off a tangle in front of the Rams cage to close out the period.
The second period would continue to see the Lancers on a dominant display as they capitalized on the remaining time on the power play to find junior Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA) charging down the ice for a 1-on-1 with the keeper to grab the 1-0 lead. A slew of penalties on both ends of the benches would find each team battling off short hand and power play chances before a full skate in the ice would find Worcester's next success. First year Sean Tyrie (East Quogue, NY) would chip in a rocket of a pass from junior Michael Schaaf (Nashua, NH) and first year Nathan McDougall (Gatineau) with just under five to go. After adding another 18 shots, the Lancers would carry the 2-0 lead into the final period of regulation.
The third period would not see Worcester slow down as sophomore Brock Forrest (Hillsborough, NJ) would slap in a third off the dish from senior Anders Gronstad (Royal Oak, MI). Penalties would continue to plague both teams but Worcester managed to continue to find success on the penalty kill. The Rams would look to battle back into the action, but junior Salvatore Carabelli (Shelby Township, MI) and his defensive unit snatched the chances from the Rams. Framingham would find late success after a save from Carabeli would pull him from the cage leaving an opening for a quick reaction rebound shot. The Rams would keep up the pressure in a bid to cut down further, recording an immediate power play opportunity but Worcester would meet the challenge. Before the final buzzer sounded the Lancers would record two final quick goal just seconds apart as junior Stirling Nash (Edmonds, WA) would score off a pass from senior Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) and sophomore Frederic Pinel (Beaumont, ON) for number four and junior Maximilian Hussar (New Canaan, CT) would score number three off a second assist from Pinel.
Carabelli would make 20 saves in the outing for his first win of the season.
