Worcester, MA- After a second road meeting with Framingham State this past Wednesday that kept the Blue and Gold Women's Ice Hockey team (5-2, 4-0) undefeated in conference play, they are back in action to take on new conference addition Salem State.
Final
Worcester State: 0
Salem State: 3
How it Happened:
After a strong win against Framingham State the Lancers looked to continue with their red hot scoring offense with a strong showing against Salem state. In the opening period the Worcester offense struggled to find a groove while Salem's Emily Schneider scored early with Isabelle Besser helping out with a tip around goal of senior Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee, MA). Salem played an aggressive offense and defense game plan while the Lancers looked to match that energy going into the second period.
In a bid to change their offensive struggles from the first period, they focused on a strong attack into Salem's space. Worcester managed to grab a few power play opportunities but were unable to score. On the other side of the scoreboard, Salem State continued their offensive success, scoring another goal, this one from Halle Greenleaf to put the Vikings up 2-0 going into the 3rd period.
Worcester would look to find the magic in the third but the Vikings would hold them off, killing all their scoring chances while recording a third goal in the final minute of action for the 3-0 victory.
What's Next:
Worcester State (5-3, 4-1) will have just a week off before they take in the current #3 team in Division III Amherst College on Sunday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 4:30pm start.
