Women’s Lacrosse Opens MASCAC Play with 16-10 Loss to Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -  The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team opened conference action this evening with a 16-10 loss to Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play at Maple Street Field.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 1-5 overall, and are 0-1 in conference. The Rams improve to 6-3 on the year and are 1-0 in the league.

The Lancers grabbed the lead just over five minutes into the game when Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, Mass.) found Alexa Harvey (Attleboro, Mass.) in front of the net and Harvey connected for the 1-0 advantage.

The Rams responded with six straight goals over a five minute span to take a 6-1 lead.  Junior Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) found the back of the net twice, while freshman Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) also added a pair on the run.

Worcester State pulled within four (6-2) when Mackenzie Little (Marlborough, Mass.) found the back of the net with 12:19 left in the first.  The two teams traded goals over the final ten minutes of the half with the Rams leading 7-3.  Gamache converted a free position opportunity for the Rams and Little converted one for the visitors.

The two teams traded goals to open the second half before the Rams rattled off three straight to take an 11-4 lead.  Worcester responded with two goals of their own less than a minute apart to pull within five at 11-6 with 17 minutes remaining.

Framingham State's freshman Rylee Holmes and Gamache scored three of the next four goals in the game to put the Rams up 14-7 with just over eight remaining.

The Lancers had one more run in them as three straight including an unassisted goal from Little to cut the deficit to 14-10 with 3:05 on the clock.  The Rams added a pair of insurance markers in the final two minutes to reach the final margin.

Little and Sutherland led the Lancers offensively, picking up four points apiece. Little registered four goals, while Sutherland recorded one goal, three helpers, and a game-high nine draw controls. Senior Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) marked two goals in the loss.

The Rams held a 34-30 advantage in shots for the game.  Sophomore Indigo Fox-Tree McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned her sixth win in net making 13 saves, while Krissy Pessa (Walpole, Mass.) took the lost for Worcester while making 13 stops.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they host Regis in a non-conference game at 6 p.m., while the Lancers travel to Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game.
