Women's Tennis Handed 8-1 Setback To Crosstown Rival Clark
Worcester, MA --- Worcester State dropped an 8-1 decision to Clark this evening in non conference women's tennis. Senior Courteney Blais improved her season record to 8-2 with triumph in two sets at third doubles for the Lancers only point of the contest.
Worcester, MA --- Clark University swept through the doubles matches en route to a decisive 8-1 win over crosstown rival Worcester State in non-league women's tennis action on Thursday evening at Corash Tennis Courts.
Clark improves to 4-7 on the season with the victory, surpassing their win total from a season ago, while Worcester State sits at 5-7.
Junior Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, ME) had a standout afternoon for the Cougars, first teaming with Emily Schweitzer (Northampton, MA) to collect an 8-2 win in doubles, then picking up a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Marissa Boss (Holden, MA).
Schweitzer also won in singles action with the afternoon's longest match. She took the first set of her match with Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) 7-5, before losing the second, 6-3. They went to a super tiebreaker and Schweitzer eventually prevailed, 10-4.
The Lancers lone victory came at No. 3 singles when Courtney Blais (Paxton, MA) defeated Clark's Maggie Swann (Portland, ME) 6-4, 6-1.
The Cougars return to the court on Monday with a makeup match against NEWMAC foe Springfield. The Lancers are next in action tomorrow when they visit UMass-Dartmouth indoors at 3 PM.
