Final
Worcester State: 1
UMass-Boston: 5
How it Happened:
Worcester would jump out to a one goal lead in just 15 seconds from puck drop as sophomore Cam Quigley (Quincy, MA) would take the face off win from graduate student Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) in the offensive zone and convert. The quick start would rebound as UMass-Boston would settle the score four and half minutes later. After the quick burst the game settled into a back and forth fight, with each team focused on claiming control. In the final three minutes the Beacons would have a chance at a lead into the first intermission but the Lancers penalty kill proved insurmountable.
In nearly the same spot as the first, UMass-Boston was able to find a goal after knocking the puck loose on their penalty kill defense for the short handed score. Worcester would kick into action after the score, recording rapid fire shots, but the Beacons held off the attack. Boston would manage to rally for an additional two goals before the close of the period for a 4-1 lead.
Halfway through the third the Beacons would stretch the lead to four and while the Lancers would battle it out until the final horn, they were unable to close the gap, falling in the championship 5-1.
Junior Donovan Alfama (Douglas, MA) and sophomore Dominic Walecka (Stoughton, MA) combined for 43 saves in the game.
What's Next:
Worcester State (5-5-3, 1-2-2) will return to action on home ice on Friday at 7:10pm as they welcome Franklin Pierce to the Worcester Ice Center.
